The project seeks to tackle the socio-culture problem of space under utilization in an urban context. Revitalization of this once forgone arts scene, along the street thus became the goal for my design, which seeks to supplement and complement the existing urban voids by creating a flexible space, introducing more opportunities for more activities to occur. A distinct but visually porous space edge fronting the street is created by infilling the existing negative spaces with “public spaces” to revitalized the so-called dead town.

The amphitheatre are connected to the gallery via a corridor 5m above the ground. The gallery itself is enclosed with 4 sides of bold concrete walls as to enhance the embience of light and shadow.  While the outdoor amphitheatre is an open structure that open up to the main street as well as the backlane in order to extend the visual linkage and encourage public involvement. This created a buffer zone for the locals to host their cultural activities. The amphitheatre space which is dedicated to the performance of Wayang Kulit in particular, street art performance, informal outdoor cinema,  tries to bring out the traditional settings of this informal art, and where light and shadow coexists, street busking become the background music of town, creating a harmonious community space where nature blends in with architecture.

4th year urban studies _ The Retrospection of the Occasion @ Tumpat _

new buildings are easy to construct, but old building are hard to preserve. It is not only to preserve the facade of the building but the essence, sense and spirit of time, and the old occasion.

Tumpat was once a most develop town in kelantan. Due to the fact that the exportation of tin mining was ended during  early 1960, the town lost its charm and economy fell eventually. A lot of chinese shop houses and colonial building was left abandoned.

The project aims to revitalize the town in terms of economic and the occasion of the town by utilizing the existing important components which are:

- abandoned port

-river

-old shop houses

-KTM station

Strateries:

-Extend the connectivity to thailand by refurbishing the port into jetty.

-Development of riverfront ( fishing village, fish industry, mangrove tree)

-Reuse and readjustment of old shop houses ( turn it into living museum)

Sound architecture : a very loud atmosphere express an indirect language to chase public away.
